FORTIFIED Roof Work We Discuss in Daphne
- Roof and deck assessment. Your roofer checks the existing covering, deck and penetrations before a complete re-roof scope is chosen.
- Stronger assembly details. The FORTIFIED Roof standard addresses deck fastening, a sealed roof deck, drip edge, roof covering and high-wind attachment together, rather than a shingle label alone. The IBHS FORTIFIED Roof page lists those assembly upgrades.
- Evaluator coordination. An independent evaluator documents the required steps and submits evidence through the IBHS process; ordinary roofing photos do not become a designation by themselves.
- Written layer scope. The proposal identifies tear-off, deck repair, fastening, sealing, underlayment and covering so the homeowner can compare it with the city or county permit requirements.
- Final records. Ask for permitted-work records, evaluator findings and any designation documents that are actually issued after review.
- Concealed-layer evidence. Plan evaluator photos while deck fastening and sealing are visible; a finished roof photograph cannot show those hidden details after the covering is installed.

Signs You Need FORTIFIED Roof Work
- A full roof replacement is already being considered and a stronger wind-focused assembly is desired.
- An insurer asks for a verified FORTIFIED designation rather than a contractor's description alone.
- The existing deck or fastening is uncertain until tear-off and inspection.
- A grant or endorsement is being considered, and the eligibility and timing need to be checked before work starts.
- Your existing roof was installed before current wind details and you want a documented upgrade rather than an unsupported label.
Our FORTIFIED Roof Work Process
- Call with the address. Say whether the roof is leaking, when replacement is planned and whether you are pursuing a designation, grant or policy endorsement.
- Line up the roles. The project needs a FORTIFIED-trained roofer and an independent evaluator; ask how their roles and documentation will be handled.
- Scope the assembly. The written proposal separates deck fastening, sealed deck, edge details, covering and any hidden decking allowance from a standard re-roof. Ask which concealed steps need evaluator photographs before the next roof layer hides them.
- Build and document. Permits, inspections and evaluator evidence follow the approved sequence; IBHS decides whether the completed record earns designation.

What Affects the Cost of FORTIFIED Roof Work in Daphne
- Existing roof and deck. Tear-off can reveal damaged sheathing or fastening that changes the work. FORTIFIED Roof cost depends on that deck condition, not only the new covering.
- FORTIFIED details. Sealing, edge treatment and high-wind covering add defined materials and labor.
- Evaluation. The independent evaluator and required documentation have their own scope.
- Permit and site conditions. Daphne or county jurisdiction and wind basis depend on the parcel, not just the mailing city.
- Timing and eligibility. Grant application, evaluation and roofer participation must be confirmed before treating any program benefit as part of the budget.

Why Choose Daphne Roof Repair
- Calls answered 24/7. Ask about a FORTIFIED re-roof before the old covering is removed.
- Participation checked. Your roofer checks the independent evaluator's schedule and the program steps before the upgrade is planned.
- Assembly in writing. Deck, sealing and covering details are named before price approval.
- Designation kept separate. IBHS and its evaluator process determine the outcome, not a sales promise.
- Records for the owner. The permit, evaluator and material documents remain distinct and easy to share with an insurer.
FORTIFIED Roof Records and Your Insurance
An insurer may offer a wind-premium reduction or a separately priced FORTIFIED endorsement under applicable Alabama rules, but the policy, filed rating plan and actual designation control the result. Keep the evaluator record, permit closeout, roof scope and any IBHS designation for the insurer. Your roofer can document the assembly; neither the roofer nor this page decides coverage or a discount. Check the IBHS process and your insurer before relying on savings. Alabama's Strengthen Alabama Homes program has separate FORTIFIED Roof eligibility from your policy's endorsement.

Before a FORTIFIED Re-Roof Begins
Do not start tear-off based only on a grant advertisement or a verbal promise of designation. IBHS requires a trained contractor, independent evaluator and submitted documentation, and its 2025 technical documents govern projects permitted from November 2025 forward. The Strengthen Alabama Homes program has separate eligibility and application steps; confirm them directly before signing. Stay off a damaged or wet roof while the existing deck and covering are assessed. A temporary cover limits water entry but is not a completed FORTIFIED assembly. Ask which permit date controls the standard edition and who will preserve photos of the deck before new layers cover it. Check the roofer's residential license route in the Alabama HBLB FAQ before signing. Alabama FORTIFIED Roof requirements follow the applicable IBHS edition and permit date. The 2026 grant FAQ says applicants must own and occupy a single-family primary residence, pay the evaluator, and complete the work through certificate upload within 90 days of award; check current terms before contracting.

FORTIFIED Roofs: common questions
Does a FORTIFIED project require an evaluator?
Yes. A FORTIFIED evaluator, trained and certified by IBHS, checks the key upgrades at the required stages and sends documentation to IBHS. If a roof is finished without that documentation, a designation may not be possible, so line up the evaluator before tear-off.
Which FORTIFIED standard applies to a new roof now?
IBHS says projects permitted on or after November 1, 2025 must meet the 2025 FORTIFIED Home standard, and where no roof permit is required, roofs installed from that date use it. Ask the roofer and evaluator to confirm the checklist for your job before materials are ordered.
Will Strengthen Alabama Homes pay for my roof?
Not for a new roof by itself. The grant pays toward bringing an eligible owner-occupied home to the FORTIFIED Roof standard, and the roof replacement cost guide gives the current cap. If the roof needs replacing anyway, ask the roofer to price a standard re-roof and the FORTIFIED version separately, so you can see which part the grant would cover.
How much can a FORTIFIED roof lower my premium?
Alabama law requires admitted insurers to discount the wind portion of the premium for a qualifying designation. The Alabama Department of Insurance's 2025 FORTIFIED report (Table 1) lists a benchmark of 35 percent for a FORTIFIED Roof five years old or newer and 20 percent after. What you save depends on your insurer's filed rates and how much of your premium is wind.
What is the FORTIFIED roof endorsement?
It is an optional, priced add-on to a coastal Alabama homeowners policy. When covered damage requires the roof to be replaced, the endorsement pays the added cost of building the new roof to the FORTIFIED Roof standard. Insurers must offer it under Code § 27-31D-2.1. Check your declarations page to see whether you have it.
